This policy explains what personal data the Woolhive app and woolhive.com collect, why we need it, who we share it with and what your rights are. We keep it short and plain. If anything is unclear, write to us at support@woolhive.com.
Who we are
Woolhive is made by CUBIXSOL LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales ("we", "us"). We are the controller of your personal data under the UK GDPR and, for members in the European Union, the EU GDPR.
What we collect
- Your account: name, e-mail address, password (stored only as a secure hash), username, profile photo and bio if you add them, country, app language, skill level and settings such as stitch terms (US or UK), left- or right-handed and e-mail choices.
- What you do in the app: the lessons and patterns you open and finish, your level and streak, row counter and project notes, saved and bought patterns, tools you use (such as the shopping list or yarn library), and downloads for offline use.
- What you share: posts, photos, comments, likes, follows, chat messages and files you send to other members, designs you submit, reports and help messages you send us.
- Photos and words for the AI helper: when you use features like "Fix my crochet" or the stitch scanner, the photo or question you send is used to give you an answer.
- Purchases: which plan or pattern you bought, when, the price and the store (App Store, Google Play or Stripe). We never see or store your card number.
- Your device: a push notification token (only if you allow notifications), the app version, the phone's operating system and the time you last used the app. Our server also keeps short technical logs (such as IP address and errors) to keep Woolhive safe and working.
We do not use advertising trackers, and the website does not use analytics cookies.
Camera, photos and microphone
- The camera and your photos are only used when you choose to take or pick a photo (for a post, your profile, the stitch scanner or "Fix my crochet").
- The microphone is only used when you switch on voice commands (like "next row"). The words are turned into text by your phone's own speech service (Apple or Google). We do not record or keep the sound.
Why we use your data
- To run Woolhive for you (our contract with you): your account, progress, projects, purchases, the community and chats.
- To keep Woolhive safe and improve it (our legitimate interests): stopping spam and abuse, handling reports, fixing errors and understanding which lessons help most.
- To send e-mails you asked for (your consent or our legitimate interests): password resets, account deletion, answers to your help messages and, if you keep them switched on, e-mails about new patterns. Every "new pattern" e-mail has an unsubscribe link.
- To meet the law (legal obligation): for example keeping records of payments.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with companies that help us run Woolhive, and only what they need:
- Our hosting provider, where the Woolhive servers and database are kept.
- Apple and Google, when you buy in the App Store or Google Play, and for push notifications on your phone.
- RevenueCat, which tells us whether your App Store or Google Play purchase is active.
- Stripe, when you buy Premium on the website.
- Anthropic, which runs the AI helper. It receives the photo or question you send and gives back the answer. Data sent through its API is not used to train its models.
- Expo, which delivers push notifications to the app.
- Our e-mail service, which delivers the e-mails above.
Other members see what you choose to share in the community: your name or username, profile photo, posts, comments and makes. Chat messages are only seen by the people in that chat (and by our team when a message is reported).
Some of these companies may process data outside the UK. When they do, they use protections the law accepts, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account data is kept while you have an account.
- When you delete your account, your name, e-mail, profile, posts and comments are removed straight away and you are signed out everywhere.
- Records of payments are kept for up to 6 years without your name, because tax law asks us to.
- Technical logs are kept for a short time (normally up to 30 days).
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct, download or delete your personal data, to stop or limit how we use it, or object to it. You can change most things yourself in the app (Me → Settings). To delete your account: in the app go to Me → Settings → Delete my account, or use woolhive.com/delete-account. For anything else, write to support@woolhive.com and we will answer within one month.
If you are not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority in your country.
Children
Woolhive is not made for children under 13, and they should not create an account. If you think a child under 13 has an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell you in the app or by e-mail before the change starts.
